BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- "American Dreams in China," a drama from Hong Kong director Peter Chan, kept Hollywood blockbuster "Iron Man 3" out of the top place on the Chinese box office charts for a second week.
Telling a dramatic story of young entrepreneurs founding an English language training service, the film pulled in 209 million yuan (about 34.1 million U.S. dollars) for the week ending May 26, China Film News reported Tuesday.
The domestic film premiered on May 17, raking in 108 million yuan in its first three days in Chinese theaters.
"Iron Man 3" saw 44.8 million yuan in ticket sales during the same week.
Not far behind was "The Croods," a cartoon set in the Stone Age, which took in 30.5 million yuan in the week.
Tom Cruise's sci-fi adventure "Oblivion" landed at forth place, with 26.8 million yuan in box office receipts.
With 22.9 million yuan at the box office, "So Young," a drama by actress-turned director Zhao Wei, landed in fifth place, according to China Film News.
