BELGRADE, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The fourth Belgrade Chinese film week kicked off here Wednesday night with the screening of a box office winner in China.
Nine Chinese films will be screened during the film week, which is jointly sponsored by the Chinese embassy, the theater of Jugoslovenska Kinoteka, and the Confucius Institute in Belgrade.
"I hope this manifestation will help the Serbian public to have a better perspective on Chinese contemporary culture," said Xu Hong, culture counselor of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade.
China attaches great importance to the fruitful cultural cooperation with Serbia, Xu said, adding that cultural exchanges have helped boost bilateral ties.
Radoslav Zelenovic, director of Jugoslovenska Kinoteka, said the local audience is interested in Chinese films, but does not have many opportunities to watch them.
"You see that there are so many television channels in Serbia, but there is not one of them on which you could learn about Chinese films," Zelenovic said.
Zelenovic spoke highly of the progress made in the Chinese film industry. "What is especially fascinating for me is technological progress made by Chinese film industry, which can today stand next to and be compared with those greatest in the world," he said.
