ZHENGZHOU, April 8 (Xinhua) -- China's famed swimmer Sun Yang won the men's 1,500-meter freestyle at the world best time so far the year here on Monday at the National Championships.
Sun, winner of the 400m, 1,500m freestyle and 4x100m freestyle relay at the London Games, led all the way to win the title in 14:48.10, which is the world fastest time so far this year, and could rank fourth at the London Games. Hebei swimmer Hao Yun placed second in 15:08.72, while Shandong swimmer Zhang Yunxiang ranked third in 15:17.73.
Sun broke the world record to win the 1,500m at London in 14:31.02.
"I wanted to swim into 15 minutes before the race, and the final went very smooth today," said Sun.
"The National Championships improved my confidence, and I will focus on the preparation of the Barcelona Worlds and try to improve my start," said Sun.
Sun collected four gold medals at the Natinal Championships as he also won the 200m, 400m and 800m free titles.
