There is speculation that the CEO of the British drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline may fly to China to handle issues surrounding the company’s bribery scandal. GlaxoSmithKline has not confirmed this information.
GSK is accused of using travel agencies as a conduit for bribing Chinese government officials, doctors and hospitals to boost sales and raise prices of their drugs.
Authorities have detained four Chinese executives of the company. Investigations in Shanghai, Changsha and Zhengzhou are still ongoing. Details about the size of payments or who received them have not been released.
GSK is listed in Britain and the United States, the two countries that can impose serious penalties if companies are found to have taken part in corrupt practices overseas.
