KADUNA, Nigeria, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian police on Thursday said they lost two officers when gunmen attacked a police station in central north Kaduna State.
The police commissioner in charge of the state, Olufemi Adenike, told Xinhua that the officers were killed when the gunmen attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters at Kaura Local Government Area on Tuesday night.
Adenike said one of the officers was shot dead on the spot and the second one died around 2:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday at the Kafanchan General Hospital.
Adenike said the attackers took advantage of the porous nature of the police headquarters because it was not fenced.
Kaduna is one of the states bearing the brunt of attacks in the West African country, with women and children worst affected.
