French consumers less confident in general economy in June: Insee

PARIS, June 27 (Xinhua) -- French consumers showed more pessimism about the general economy in June, with the monthly sentiment indicator declined to 78, one point down from May, the national statistics bureau Insee said Thursday.

The households' sentiment to their future personal financial situation was stable at minus 28 but their attitudes toward the general economy deteriorated by two points from May and "reached a new historically lowest level... since October 2008," Insee said in a report.

Worries about a lasting depressed labor market were the major burden over most French people who forecasted an increase in unemployment as the indicator stood at 83, up by two points from a month earlier.

Official data showed that French jobless rate in the first quarter rose by 0.3 percentage point to 10.4 percent of the active population, hitting a 14-year high.

According to the Insee, households' concerns over inflation were almost unchanged from May data, but they generally thought it's good time for saving.

The downward trend in French consumer sentiment began from February 2010.
