Woman to head Mauritania's public television

NOUAKCHOTT, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Khira Mint Cheikhany has been named as the director general for Mauritania Television (TVM), an official source said on Thursday.

Ms. Cheikhany, a member of the executive bureau of the ruling Union for the Republic (UPR), obtained her law doctorate from Havre University in France.

Her predecessor, Elmoudir Ould Bouna, was appointed as the director general of the Nouadhibou fishing port in the West African country's economic capital, Nouadhibou.
