TOKYO, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei closed higher Tuesday as investors picked up a wide range of domestic demand-driven issues while locking in gains from a recent rally in export-oriented issues.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed up 34.36 points, or 0. 37 percent, at 9,423.30, the first time since April 27 that it has ended above 9,400.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange added 2.10 points, or 0.27 percent, to 781.60.
The gainers included airline companies, telecommunications firms and paper makers, while carmakers, steelmakers and glass makers slumped.
The turnover was about 1,229.9 billion yen (about 14.99 U.S. dollars).
