TAIPEI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.33 percent in October, 0.01 percentage point higher than in September, according to figures released on Thursday by Taiwan's statistics authorities.
Compared with the same period last year, Taiwan's unemployment rate rose 0.03 percentage points in October.
Officials from the statistics authorities described the rise as a warning sign and said more attention should be paid to the data in the next two months.
After seasonal adjustment, the unemployment rate stood at 4.30 percent, the same as that of September. The number of unemployed people in Taiwan stood at 493,000, 3,000 more than the previous month.
The figures showed that compared with September, 3,000 more people lost their jobs due to the contraction or closure of their employers' businesses. The number of employed people increased by 0.17 percent from September to 10.897 million in October.
