PARIS, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The number of jobless people in France hit a record high in November, as the country faced a double threat of spiralling debt crisis and weak economic indicators, official data showed on Monday.

According to figures of the Labor Ministry, 29,900 more jobseekers were reported in November, up by 1.1 percent month on month and 5.2 percent year on year.

It drove up the total job demands to 2.844 million in France's mainland, the highest level since 1999.

"We took note of the increasing number of job seekers which was a direct result of the slowing economic activity," Labor Minister Xavier Bertrand said in a statement.

By the third quarter of 2011, jobless rate in France inched up by 2 percentage points to 9.3 percent in the context of global economic recession.

To create more jobs in the country, the French government will hold a meeting focusing on unemployment on Jan. 18, 2012.
