TEHRAN, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned Tuesday the recent killing of four Egyptian Shiite Muslims on the outskirts of Cairo.

"We condemn any move which seeks to create sectarian conflict in Muslim communities and consider it as a foreign plot," said Abbas Araqchi, the spokesman, while talking to reporters at his weekly briefing.

"Egypt's national unity is of grave importance," said Araqchi, adding "The enemies of the Egyptians... are seeking to create a religious conflict in Egypt."

On Sunday, a hostile crowd attacked a house in the village of Abu Mussalem near Cairo and killed four Egyptian Shiite Muslims and injured several others.

Denouncing the violence against Shiite Muslims in Egypt, Iran's Foreign Ministry also said in a statement on Monday that any act of extremism contradicts Islamic teachings.

The new wave of attacks against Shiites in Iraq, Pakistan and Egypt came after the Lebanese Shiite Muslim organization of Hezbollah announced that it has joined the Syrian Army to fight the Syrian rebels who are overwhelmingly from the Sunni communities.
