Russia sends more humanitarian aid to Syria, evacuates citizens

MOSCOW, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Russia has delivered another humanitarian consignment to Syria, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
"Two planes of the Emergency Situations Ministry have completed the humanitarian mission to Syria. Twenty-two tonnes of humanitarian cargo have been delivered to the city of Latakia," the ministry said in a statement.

Food and other staple goods were among the consignment, and Syrian authorities have guaranteed security of the mission, it said.

On their way back, the planes picked up one more group of the Russian nationals as well as the citizens of several CIS countries, 128 people in total.

"Russia will continue to offer necessary assistance for the friendly Syrian people through both international organizations and on bilateral basis," the ministry said.

Moscow will also assist Russian nationals residing in Syria to leave that war-torn country, should they express such a desire, the statement said.

The Emergency Situations Ministry has delivered several humanitarian consignments to Syria in the last months, taking back hundreds of people who "wish to leave the country."
