HOUSTON, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Five police officers in the U.S. state of Texas has been charged of selling the drugs they seized from drug traffickers, according to media reports. The men were members of the Panama unit, a joint task force between the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and the Police Department of the Mission city that targeted street-level drug trafficking in the city, according to the website of The Houston Chronicle. The unit's members sold the drugs they seized to another drug trafficker and escorted drug loads, according to prosecutors.
Four of the men pleaded guilty to one count of drug conspiracy while the fifth man pleaded guilty to cocaine possession charge for escorting the drug loads. If convicted, the men will face sentences between 10 years and life in prison, according to the report.
