India embassy to China celebrates the 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in Beijing on Monday.

Ambassador (Retd.) Pascal Alan Nazareth, Founder and Managing Trustee of Sarvodaya International Trust, delivered a lecture on “Contemporary relevance of Swami Vivekananda” at the Indian Cultural Center Beijing on May 28.

In his lecture, Ambassador Nazareth spoke about Swami Vivekananda, who secured for Hinduism the status of a world religion and a “spiritual democracy”. He also transformed it from a highly philosophical religion and caste ridden "way of life" into a deeply spiritualized humanism with universalism pertinence.

Swami Vivekananda, born as Narendra Nath Datta, was a key figure in the introduction of Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the western world. He was also credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion in the late 19th century.

The lecture was organized by India embassy to China and was widely appreciated by the audience.
