OSAKA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Rescue crews continue to search for two school children missing after hike with other classmates in the western Japanese prefecture of Shiga, local press reported on Tuesday.
The two children, a boy and a girl, disappeared on Monday afternoon after leaving the summit of a mountain located in Takashima City of the prefecture to try to enter the restricted area of the mountain at a height of approximately 820 meters above sea level, according to Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK), Japan's public broadcaster.
The report said that they are sixth-grade students at an elementary school in Osaka City, which organized a school excursion to the mountain with other 80 classmates and teachers.
Teams from police alpine specialists, local firefighters and Japan's Self-Defense Force worked through the night to try to find the two children, but there have been no signs of them, the report added.
More than 200 people are expected to join the search on Tuesday.
