TEHRAN, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili will meet European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in May to discuss Iran's nuclear program, Press TV reported Friday.
"A source close to the talks between Tehran and the P5+1 group told Press TV that (in the meeting) Jalili ... would seek answers to Iran's proposals to the six powers made in the Kazakh city of Almaty in April," said the report without elaboration.
Ashton's office earlier announced that the meeting would be held on May 15 in the Turkish city of Istanbul as a "follow-up to the last round of negotiations held in Almaty."
The two-day nuclear talks on April 5-6 between Iran and the P5+ 1 group, namely the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany, concluded in Almaty with both sides saying that the gap of views over the key points could not be bridged.
While Iranian officials stressed that any mechanism to settle Iran's nuclear issue in the talks should take into consideration the recognition of Iran's right to uranium enrichment activities, the revised proposal by the world powers asked Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment and shut down its underground Fordow enrichment facilities in return for limited sanction relief.
