12 killed in road mishap in northern India

NEW DELHI, April 15 (Xinhua) -- At least 12 people were killed in a road mishap in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India late Sunday night, a senior police official said Monday.

"The mishap happened when the car in which the victims were traveling rolled into a deep gorge in the state's Chamba district. The victims, returning from a local cricket match, died on the spot. Rescuers recovered their bodies this morning," the official said, on condition of anonymity.

The victims were all below 30 years of age, he said, adding that a probe has been ordered into the incident.
