ISLAMABAD, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Wednesday lodged strong protest with India over the killing of its soldier by the Indian forces Tuesday night, the military said Wednesday.

The military said that the Indian troops violated the Line of Control (LoC), which divides the two countries in the disputed Kashmir region.

Director General of Military Operation Pakistan Army talked on hotline to his Indian counterpart on Wednesday and lodged the protest, the army said.

Officials said Indian forces have killed three Pakistani soldiers in 10 days as tension heightened along the LoC in recent says.

India responded that Pakistani forces have killed two soldiers.

Both nuclear rivals had declared a ceasefire in 2003 and the recent clashes have posed serious threat to the ceasefire.

However, both sides also tried to reduce the tension and diplomatically resolve the issue.
