UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The head of the UN food agency has met Syrian refugees in a refugee camp on the border between Turkey and Syria at a time when the agency is considering expanded food aid to refugees in coming months, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky told reporters here Tuesday.
"The executive director of the World Food Program (WFP), Ertharin Cousin, has concluded a visit to Turkey this week by meeting Syrian refugees in Kilis camp on the Turkish-Syrian border, " Nesirky said at a daily news briefing here.
Turkey is one of the several of Syria's neighboring countries to receive a massive influx of Syrian refugees who fled a 19-month political crisis and the subsequent violence.
Before this visit, Cousin had two days of high-level meetings with Turkish officials in Ankara and Istanbul, the two major Turkish cities.
"The World Food Program began providing food assistance in partnership with the Turkish Red Crescent in October of last year, " he said. "It plans to expand the project to assist 100,000 Syrian refugees in Turkey by June."
