French labor minister expects more jobseekers in coming months

PARIS, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- French Labor Minister Michel Sapin on Sunday expected "bad" unemployment data over the coming months due to quite difficult economic situation.

"I can tell you that (unemployment) figures will be bad. There will be more unemployed recorded (in October) and it will be like that for several months," the minister told RTL radio.

"When the machine creating unemployment has been launched since 17 months, it will not stop overnight but it will continues to produce unemployment. So, the government's objective is to curb this machine and to reverse it to a machine creating jobs," Sapin added.

In September, France's jobless rate grew by 1.6 percent to 3.057 million unemployed people. Year on year, the rate jumped by 10.1 percent over the same period last year.

Dogged by record high joblessness, President Francois Hollande targets to reverse the unemployment curve at the end of next year via "jobs of the future" plan that with state subsidies will contribute in recruiting the poorly qualified young workers from disadvantaged suburbs and rural areas.

Aiming at creating 100,000 jobs in the public sector and 50,000 in the private sector by 2014, the government employment scheme will cost 2.3 billion euros (2.98 billion U.S. dollars) to be compensated by removing tax exemptions from taxes on overtime work. (1 euro = 1.296 U.S. dollar)
