NEW YORK, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- New York City is coordinating the distribution of about 26,500 Thanksgiving meals for residents most affected by Superstorm Sandy, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Wednesday.
Special turkey dinners will be available at the City's prepared food distribution sites from 11AM - 3 PM on Thursday afternoon, according to Bloomberg.

The efforts are getting a boost from the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City in partnership with local elected officials, community and culinary groups, religious organizations and local supermarkets.

"As we continue to recover and rebuild from the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy, our City will do everything we can to bring some of the comforts and traditions of Thanksgiving to families in our hardest hit communities," said Bloomberg.

"We are grateful for the many generous community and corporate partners for their commitment to helping our City get back on its feet during this holiday season", he added.

New York City with Federal Emergency Management Agency have distributed more than 2.7 million meals and nearly 700,000 bottles of water so far to people impacted by Sandy.

In addition, about 5,000 bleacher seats along the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade route will go to families hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy, and the department store will even provide transportation to and from the event.
Bloomberg said that he's hoping to lighten the load during this trying time so that the worst-hit families can enjoy the holidays.
