Luodian European New Town is quickly emerging as a popular shopping and leisure area in Shanghai. Blessed with a gorgeous lake and a golf club fit for professionals, the town makes for a nice excursion, Qu Zhi reports.
There was a time when Luodian Town in Baoshan District flourished with various markets during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). It was also a famous place for making dragon boats.
Since 1998, the town, which has existed for more than 700 years, has been listed as one of Shanghai's pilot towns. The blueprint called for Luodian to be remodeled along the lines of a town in northern Europe.
The core area of Luodian Northern European New Town features Swedish architecture. It has convenient public transportation as Metro Line 7 links to downtown Shanghai, as do return buses and a highway. Luodian also has more than 100 parking places.
