Egypt's Cassation Court to review challenge of ex-interior minister

10:47, January 15, 2013

CAIRO, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Court of Cassation is scheduled to review on March 17 a challenge filed by former President Hosni Mubarak's Interior Minister Habib al-Adli, who is against the ruling to serve 12 years in prison, official news agency MENA reported Monday.

The challenge was submitted against a ruling issued by the Cairo Criminal Court in May of 2011 to sentence Adli 12 years in prison for charges of profiteering and money laundering.

On Sunday, the Court of Cassation accepted two appeals concerning Mubarak, his two sons Gamal and Alaa, Adli and his six assistants. All these people, including Mubarak, will be retried.

On June 3, 2012, the Cairo Criminal Court decided to sentence Mubarak and Adli to life terms for charges of failing to stop the killing of protesters in the unrest in early 2011.
