On December 12th, 1936, two patriotic generals Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng launched the “Xi’an Incident,” which astounded the whole world. This episode ended with the formation of the second KMT-CPC United Front against Japan, laying the foundation for the victory of the war against Japan. It is therefore a major turning point in modern Chinese history and a lot of memorable revolutionary sites were left for later generations.

Location: No.1 Qixianzhuang, Beixin Jie, Xi 5-Lu, Xi’an
In December, 1936, after the peaceful settlement of the Xi’an Incident, the CPC set up the “Xi’an Red Army Liaison Office” to facilitate the CPC-KMT communication. This was the first public office established in the KMT-controlled areas. It assisted the CPC Delegation and contributed substantially to solving remaining problems of the Xi’an Incident. When the War of Resistance against Japan broke out in July, 1937, the Red Army was reorganized as the Eighth Route Army of the National Revolutionary Army. As a result, the office was renamed as the “Shaanxi Office of the Eighth Route Army” accordingly. It is now one of the important cultural relics under the protection of the state.
