Luoyang was a world-renowned metropolitan area and the eastern start of silk road during the Sui & Tang Dynasties. Supplies were firstly gathered in Luoyang and then transported to different places across the world, a number of goods were also sent abroad along the silk road.

The old Luoyang city witnessed the most glorious history in ancient China, comprising considerable amounts of cultural content. Those materials provided extremely valuable information for researching the rules, city layouts and social lives of ancient China, and the city played a key role among the old capitals.

Established in December 2005, the comprehensive botanic garden was based on the mountains, water, plants and city of the Sui and Tang Dynasties relics. It contains 17 specialized gardens, including a peony garden, bamboo garden, osmanthus garden, plum garden, willow garden, rock garden, crabapple garden, fragrance garden and so on. Among them, the peony garden covers 320 mu, constituting the Baihua garden, Jiuse garden, Tese garden and Sci-tech demonstration garden, with more than 1200 kinds of peonies. Through some artistic means such as stone arrangements, landscape architecture, couplets on pillar and carvings, the poems and allusions which compliment peonies in Luoyang were fully displayed, enriching the cultural connotations of the peony. This poeny garden is widely regarded as having the most variety, colors and the cultural ambience. With over 1000 kinds of plants, with a green coverage of 1300-thousand square meters, the array of plants has been carefully arranged to form a large-scale botanical garden mixing northern and southern gardening styles and rules, and featuring both Chinese and foreign gardens.

The garden was equipped with more than 20 recreational squares with different forms and appearances, reflecting more than 30 groups of pavilions, which displayed not only the architectural styles of the Sui and Tang Dynasties, but also its modern character. Dicui Lake is surrounded by strange stones and green islands, and spans 120-thousand squares meters; additionally, a 30-thousand-square-meter lake, wetland and large forest features in the wild water garden. A water channel more than 10-thousand meters long skillfully connects and weaves through the garden, to not only maneuver the function of irrigation, but also add a sense of the elegance to it. All of these features form a fantastic landscape with gurgling streams, rippling waves, and birds flying high, just like a scene from a poem or painting.
