New thinking behind top leaders' diplomatic visits (2)

(People's Daily Online)

The rapidly developing China needs to consolidate the strategic geo-political and economic foundation. After taking office, Xi Jinping visited Russia, Tanzania, South Africa, and Republic of Congo, and participated in BRICS summit in Durban in March. From May 8 to 16, Vice President Li Yuanchao made an official visit to Argentina and Venezuela. Then, Li Keqiang chose India, Pakistan, Germany and Switzerland for his first visit. State Councilor Yang Jiechi visited Mongolia in early May. Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei and defined this visit as a" tour of communication and cooperation", indicating that the new Chinese government attaches great importance to relations with neighboring countries and is willing to regard ASEAN as a priority in its neighboring diplomatic relations. The series of visits signify that China is actively promoting comprehensive relations with neighboring countries, developing countries and developed countries.

Chinese leaders have proposed to build new relations among major powers, hoping to achieve historic leap. In history, relations among major powers are with a trace of sadness, with only "winner or loser" situation. To break this stereotype, we need new ideas and wisdom, and that is to establish win-win relations among major powers.

Here "new" means one country should take the other's development and growth as its own opportunity instead of a threat; it should take advantage of such opportunities through further cooperation, rather than contain and confront the other. Only in this way can we promote long-term benign interaction between countries. Win-win cooperation between China and the U.S. not only affects the well-being of the two peoples, but will affect the world's stability and development. This is the meaning of responsibilities of big powers.

China's frank and positive diplomatic performance is to bring wonder to the world.
