Delegation led by Thai Deputy Policy Chief Pansiri Prapawat visits “Sunshine Project” in Guizhou (2)

From March 22 to 23, a delegation of Royal Thai Police led by Deputy Chief Pansiri Prapawat visited the “Sunshine Project” for community drug control and rehabilitation in Guizhou. Mr. Cui Yadong, member of the Standing Committee and Secretary of the Committee of Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee, Director of the Guizhou Narcotic Control Commission and Director of the Public Security Department of Guizhou Province, met with the delegation in the capital city Guiyang and introduced the “Sunshine Project” to the guests. Besides, Mr. Zhao Xiang, Deputy Director of the Guizhou Narcotic Control Commission, Director of the Guizhou Narcotic Control Office, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and Deputy Director of the Public Security Department of Guizhou Province also exchanged views with the delegation and accompanied the guests in their visit to the “Sunshine Family” in Qingzhen City.

During the meeting held on the afternoon of March 22, Mr. Cui gave a detailed introduction to the delegation about the great accomplishments Guizhou had achieved in recent years and the work of Public Security Department of Guizhou Province. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee, People’s Government of Guizhou Province and the Ministry of Public Security, Mr. Cui said, the Public Security Department of Guizhou Province loyally fulfilled its duties and ensured a generally harmonious and stable social environment, with a view to building a peaceful, harmonious and happy Guizhou. In particular, it actively innovated in anti-drug management and initiated the “Sunshine Project” for community drug control and rehabilitation. Centering round “Occupational Placement” in the “Sunshine Enterprises”, the initiative aims to help drug addicts shake off their reliance on drugs, rehabilitate both physically and mentally, get employed and return to society. Through the “Occupational Placement”, the initiative had helped to save, educate and enlighten those once in the grip of drugs, bringing about positive political, legal and social impacts, and thus received positive response from people in all walks of life, concluded Mr. Cui.

On the afternoon of March 22, Mr. Zhao met with the delegation and expounded the practices and achievements of the “Sunshine Project”. After gaining a good understanding of the initiative through exchanges, the Thai police delegates agreed that the “Sunshine Project” was a great breakthrough in addressing such universal problems as the addicts’ struggle to keep themselves away from the drugs after having given up drugs, difficulties concerning management and control of drug addicts, challenges faced by the addicts in returning to society and high risks for the addicts to go back to drugs. Guizhou’s experience serves as valuable reference for Thailand and even the whole world in their anti-drug efforts.

On the afternoon of March 23, the delegation arrived at the “Sunshine Family” in Qingzhen, where they visited the workshop, dining hall, activity room and Methadone treatment room, and inquired in detail about the management of drug addicts, methadone maintenance treatment, as well as the work of anti-drug staff in the community.
