The studios themselves are definitely a step up from their surroundings, though they can't compare with the zen-trified studios downtown, especially considering that for hot yoga, the price at Cindy's is no cheaper than swanked-out places like Shanti or Fine Yoga.
But people should recognize that yoga's focus is within, not without. Instructor turned entrepreneur Cindy Liu has been teaching yoga for more than six years. Three of the studios where she has taught bear her own name.
"In Chinese, 'xin' means heart, and 'di' means inner peace," Liu says, explaining why she branded her school with her own name. "I've taught in this area for a long time. Everybody knows me, so I continue to use my name because I'm still here, and I'm still teaching."
