Sense of happiness in the rural areas slightly higher than urban areas
The survey found that a slightly higher proportion of rural residents feel happy than urban residents. In rural areas, the longer the ages of marriage, the more happy the family feel; but in the city, the shorter the ages of marriage, the higher the sense of happiness.
Wang Guangzhou, a researcher at the Institute of Population and Labor Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said this fact reflects the relatively greater pressure in urban life. In urban areas, the pressure due to the living environment, work, and education of the children are all greater than in rural areas. More and more emotional temptations also bring the original "seven-year itch" down to "three-year itch", or even shorter.
The relationship between husband and wife is also an important factor affecting family happiness. The survey shows that people of the first marriage feel the happiest, while divorced families feel the least happy.
The survey shows that families' sense of happiness increases along with the age. Families of post-1940s have the highest sense of happiness, and families of post-1990s the least.
Living close to but not together with parents boosts the sense of happiness
The survey shows that families which "live close to but not together with parents" have the highest sense of happiness
Wang Guangzhou said, with the improvement of the material living standards, Chinese parents and children generally want to have separate living spaces, but at the same time the "home distance" cannot be too long.
