Forbes said with the real estate becoming the most popular investment in Hong Kong, nearly two-thirds of the 50 richest on the list rely on real estate investment or development to accumulate vast wealth.

Benefited from spending by mainland tourists, the overall index rose 23 percent in the retail business in Hong Kong. Simon Kwok and Eleanor Kwok, heads of the cosmetics chain Sa Sa witnessed their wealth rose from $ 1.09 billion to $ 1.55 billion, ranking 33 on the list.

Forbes increased the number of richest people from 40 to 50 on the list. All the top 50 are billionaires or billionaire families, reflecting a pretty good year for Hong Kong last year.
