BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Members of China's ruling party have been called on to actively join a campaign for furthering ties with the people, or following the mass line.

"(Party members) should go deep into the grassroots for research, listen to the people's thoughts and pool wisdom from people from various walks of life," said Senior CPC leader Liu Yunshan, who noted that fully realizing the adherence to the mass line is a strategic measure to improve the Party's construction.

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Sunday at a seminar on the education and implementation of the CPC's principle of adhering to the mass line.

During the seminar, secretaries of Party committees of several cities and counties, the heads of certain central departments, experts and scholars exchanged opinions on how to carry out the campaign.

"Whether a party can maintain its flesh and blood ties with the people directly affects the party's life and death," Liu said, urging related departments to absorb the ideas and suggestions tabled during the seminar and apply them in this campaign.

Liu called on Party members to know their roles, serve the people with all their heart and always bear in mind people's needs when making decisions.
