In fact, Denmark which held the EU Presidency in the first half of 2012 enjoyed warm diplomatic ties with China. The two countries forged a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership covering political, economic, cultural and other affairs in 2008.

Furthermore, the two countries signed 17 inter-governmental agreements in areas such as investment, tariffs, energy, agriculture and culture, during the first-ever state visit to Denmark by Chinese President Hu Jintao in June 2012. Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt paid her first official visit to China as Danish Prime Minister in September to deepen the Sino-Danish relations.

"It is not a secret that Denmark enjoys a very close relationship with China. By the end of this year we will have 10 Danish cabinet ministerial visits to China. I have just visited China at the beginning of this month. That is a very clear sign and commitment to close cooperation between China and Denmark," he said.

Wammen stressed that strengthening Sino-Danish cooperation has not only been seen at national level, but also at city level, referring to the Beijing-Copenhagen sister-city agreement which was signed in June 2012 in Beijing.

"I am very optimistic that we will have a constructive and developing relationship also after the party congress under the incoming Chinese leadership. We look forward to working close with it," he said.
