A restaurant in Fuzhou has been hailed by netizens for its ingenious flood prevention measures in the wake of Typhoon Megi.
Due to the typhoon, more than 30 areas in the city of Fuzhou were waterlogged as of 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 29. However, a restaurant in the basement of one building stood miraculously intact, despite the water surrounding it. Photos posted online show the restaurant encircled by a dyke built with waterproof plates and other materials.

According to Chen Cheng, the owner of the restaurant, he and his staff prepared sandbags, plates and water pumps in advance, building a 1.3-meter-high dyke before the typhoon came. The dyke worked well, with only a little water leaking through.
When Typhoon Soudelor hit Fuzhou last year, the restaurant was completely submerged, which caused a loss of about 5 million RMB. For this reason, Chen prepared very thoroughly to prevent future floods during reconstruction after Soudelor. The dyke also helped to protect the restaurant from floodwaters in mid-September when Typhoon Meranti hit the city.
