Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday that BRICS cooperation has reached a crucial stage of development.

"We should get more emerging market and developing countries involved in our concerted endeavors for cooperation and mutual benefits."

The president was refuting the assertion that BRICS countries are losing their luster as emerging market and developing countries have experienced growth setbacks.

The BRICS countries as a group are playing "a key role" in bringing greater balance to global governance.
