Chinese senior legislator visits South Korea, attends parliamentary exchange meeting

SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of the South Korean National Assembly, Ding Zhongli, vice chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, led an NPC delegation on a visit to South Korea from Monday to Tuesday.

During the visit, Ding met with South Korean National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong-sik and, together with Deputy Speaker Nam In-soon, attended the 14th meeting of the regular exchange mechanism between China's NPC and the South Korean National Assembly.

Ding said that amid a complex and evolving international landscape, China and South Korea should stay true to the original aspiration that guided the establishment of diplomatic ties, uphold good-neighborliness and friendship, and remain committed to mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

He called on the two sides to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, achieve more results in cooperation across various fields, and deliver greater benefits to the two peoples.

The South Korean side noted that China and South Korea are close neighbors with a long history of friendly exchanges and expressed willingness to work with China to further advance the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, the regional situation, economic, scientific and technological cooperation, and the rights and interests of women and children.

The South Korean side also reiterated its position of respecting the one-China principle.
