Argentine FM says relations with China in "very good" place

BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said the South American country's relations with China are currently "in a very good place."

He made the remarks Tuesday when attending an event celebrating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, organized by the Chinese Embassy in Argentina and held at the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.

"Relations between Argentina and China are in a very good place. We are working precisely to continue opening markets and fostering greater trade openness," he said.

"The support China has shown Argentina, including the renewal of the currency swap agreement between the central bank and the People's Bank of China, is also very important, and we hope to continue deepening our relationship," he added.

Stressing Argentina's firm commitment to the one-China principle, Quirno also expressed gratitude for China's support for his country's legitimate sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, known in Britain as the Falkland Islands.
