Clued-in | AI-fueled distortion of history by Japan's right-wing forces is poisonous

Cartoon by Gou Ben.
Japanese right-wing forces have been leveraging artificial intelligence to build illicit content networks, fabricating and disseminating false information, and distorting the history of wartime aggression in World War II.
This has created gaps in public understanding of wartime history among some Japanese citizens. It has also fueled growing conservative and exclusionary sentiment, along with unfounded hostility toward neighboring countries such as China and South Korea, leading to distorted perceptions and collective misjudgments.
For years, Japanese right-wing forces have promoted the so-called "China threat theory," fueling antagonistic narratives, widening mutual misunderstanding between the two peoples, and eroding the foundation of bilateral relations and cooperation across a wide range of fields.
The misuse of AI as a tool to rewrite history and incite hatred is not only a betrayal of historical truth but also a challenge to the fundamental boundaries of human civilization.
China will work with the international community to firmly oppose the abuse of AI for spreading disinformation, counter false narratives, and uphold historical dignity.
