China opposes Japan-Philippines infringement of its maritime rights, interests: spokesperson
BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Activities carried out by relevant Chinese authorities in the waters east of Taiwan Island are completely legitimate and beyond reproach, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday.
Guo made the remarks at a regular press briefing, stating that China has an exclusive economic zone and a continental shelf in the waters east of Taiwan Island.
By bypassing China and launching the so-called maritime delimitation negotiations, Japan and the Philippines have seriously violated international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as the basic norms of international relations. Their actions have gravely infringed upon China's maritime rights and interests, which China will never tolerate, Guo said.
