Charming China - Hong Kong
The travel documentary "Charming China – Hong Kong," co-produced by People's Daily Online Australia and Grainger TV, premiered on Australia's Channel Ten in November, offering Australian audiences an intimate look at Hong Kong, a city where tradition meets modernity.
Hosted by renowned Australian presenter Greg Grainger and local Hong Kong host Steph Leung, the program begins at Victoria Peak, taking in sweeping views of the city skyline and Victoria Harbour from the historic Peak Tram. As evening falls, the hosts explore the glittering lights along the Avenue of Stars and step aboard a traditional sailing ship, capturing the city's vibrant nightlife.
The documentary also visits Cheung Chau Island, a car-free retreat where visitors can slow down and savor local treats such as giant fish balls and mango mochi, soaking in the island's relaxed charm. The journey continues to Tai O fishing village on Lantau Island, where stilt houses, winding waterways, and the Pak Tai Temple reveal Hong Kong's living traditions and rich fishing culture.
Viewers also get a glimpse of Hong Kong's top-tier hotels and diverse culinary scene. The program concludes at the Big Buddha, where the hosts ascend 268 steps to enjoy panoramic views of Lantau Island, symbolizing the seamless blend of culture and nature in Hong Kong.
"Hong Kong" is the latest installment in the Charming China series. Since 2018, People's Daily Online Australia has introduced Australian audiences to the beautiful landscapes and diverse cultures of Chinese provinces, including Sichuan, Shaanxi, Hainan, Guangdong, Anhui, Hubei and Shandong.
