COLOMBO, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government donated 1 million U.S. dollars to assist children affected by the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the President's Media Division (PMD) said in a press release on Monday.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the donation in the form of a cheque to Zuhair M.H. Zaid, the Palestinian ambassador in Sri Lanka, the PMD said.
Meanwhile, the Children of Gaza Fund, initiated by Wickremesinghe in February 2024 to provide aid to children in the Gaza Strip, has received over 20 million rupees (about 66,000 U.S. dollars) donated by Sri Lankans, the PMD said.
These funds are scheduled to be formally transferred to the Palestinian government in the coming days, the PMD said.
