China issues yellow alert for high temperatures
BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- China's national observatory on Monday issued a yellow alert for high temperatures, as heatwaves are forecast to scorch parts of the country.
During daylight hours on Tuesday, temperatures in parts of northern China, areas between the Yellow River and the Huaihe River, the Fenhe-Weihe Plain, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the Sichuan Basin are expected to hit 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, the National Meteorological Center said.
According to the forecast, temperatures in some areas of Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin will even exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological center has advised people to avoid outdoor activities during high-temperature periods, and suggested that workers exposed to high temperatures should adopt necessary protective measures.
China has a three-tier, color-coded weather warning system for high temperatures, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange and yellow.
