BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Singers and bands from Taiwan are expected to hold nearly 100 large-scale concerts and participate in dozens of music festivals on the mainland this year, a Chinese mainland spokesperson told a press conference on Wednesday.

A total of 431 performances involving Taiwan artists have been approved since relevant departments on the mainland resumed handling applications for commercial performances involving Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan artists on Feb. 16, said Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Noting that Taiwan musicians have been developing their careers on the mainland since the 1980s, Zhu said the mainland has always been welcoming Taiwan musicians to share opportunities and realize their musical dreams on the mainland, thus jointly promoting the prosperous development of the music market across the Taiwan Strait.

As cross-Strait exchanges in the music sector continue to deepen, the mainland has increased its policy support for the development of Taiwan musicians on the mainland, and provided policy advice and assistance to Taiwan's performing institutions in obtaining licenses and certificates, as well as facilitating commercial performances, Zhu said.
