China's role in global peace-making reflects commitment to building stable world order, says experts

ISLAMABAD, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Based on the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, China's active role in global peace-making has highlighted the country's commitment to building a new and stable world order, said experts from various countries during a webinar.

China promotes peace through development, common projects, dialogues, win-win cooperation and respect for diversity, and has forged stronger relationships with countries around the world, said Adrian Severin, a former member of the European Parliament, during the recent webinar on China's ties with the Middle East organized by the Institute of Regional Studies, an Islamabad-based think tank.

Unlike the U.S., China's policy is mainly economically and socially oriented rather than hegemonic or egoistic, he said, adding that the policy of economic engagement and non-interference in internal affairs is an attractive alternative to other countries.

Through its projects such as the Global Security Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China has been bolstering peace and prosperity worldwide, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Teodor Melescanu, former minister of national defense of Romania, said that China is emerging as a significant player in the new international system, with an increasing influence in the global economy.

Commenting on the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Melescanu said that China is one of the countries that came up with important proposals to end the conflict, taking into account perspectives from both Russia and Ukraine for the political solution to the crisis.

Melescanu believed that by fostering effective communication and engaging in dialogue, it is possible to find peaceful resolutions of international disputes and work towards a better peaceful future.

Underlining the crucial role of economics in geopolitics, Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, a professor of politics and international relations at Pakistan's Quaid-i-Azam University, said that the BRI highlighted the importance of economic connectivity and interdependence in the international order.

"Countries like Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia have welcomed BRI projects and received generous financial support from China," the professor said, adding that the BRI is facilitating economic cooperation and connectivity, fostering regional cooperation, and helping to diffuse geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Mentioning the recent rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran mediated by China, Jaspal said that the restarting of diplomatic relations between the two countries would have a soothing impact on regional cooperation.
