Profile: French President Emmanuel Macron
BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a state visit to China from April 5 to 7 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Macron was born in 1977 in the northern French city of Amiens. After graduating from the Philosophy Department of Paris Nanterre University, he went on to attend the Paris Institute of Political Studies and the Ecole Nationale d'Administration.
He became deputy general secretary of the French presidency in 2012, and assumed the office of minister for economy, industry and digital affairs in August 2014.
In 2016, Macron founded the political movement "En Marche!" (On the Move!), and launched an independent bid for the French presidency.
He was elected the eighth president of the Fifth Republic of France in May 2017, and was re-elected president in April 2022.
Macron is married to Brigitte Macron.
