University Alliance of the Silk Road launches summer course
The University Alliance of the Silk Road launched a summer course titled Han-Tang Civilization in Museums and Legal Protection at the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum in Xi’an, capital city of northwest China’s Shaanxi province on July 12, 2021.

A total of 42 Chinese and international students joined this program. They are from 13 top universities in China including Peking University, Fudan University, Renmin University of China, and Xi'an Jiaotong University. Over the following week, the course will focus on the protection of the cultural heritage of museums, applying the learning model of "lectures from experts + museum practical visits + interactive communication".

In his opening speech, Xi Guang, Vice Principal of Xi’an Jiaotong University, gave an introduction on Xi'an Jiaotong University and the University Alliance of the Silk Road. He encouraged the international students to visit more places and get to know the real China.

Qian Jikui, Deputy Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, pointed out that this course is worth encouraging as a model of cross-border cooperation and innovation in higher education and cultural heritage. He hoped that all participants could contribute to cultural exchanges across the world through learning and spreading fine traditional Chinese culture.

Tian Jing, Deputy Director of the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, pointed out that as the eighth wonder of the world, the museum has an extremely strong educational function. She hoped that through the immersive learning process, participants will truly understand the essence of museum collections and use legal means to protect the heritage.

After the opening ceremony, Liu Shuguang, Chairman of the Chinese Museums Association, delivered the first lecture report entitled "The Basic National Condition of Chinese Cultural Heritage". In the report, he gave a detailed account of the conservation of different types of cultural relics in China, introduced the characteristics and future development of Chinese museums through the use of vivid examples, and encouraged the students present to love Chinese culture, increase their cultural confidence, and strive to be gatekeepers of culture.
The program is organized by the University Alliance of the Silk Road, Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, sub-organized by The Belt and Road IP Alliance of the Silk Road, Intellectual Property Research Institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and the School of International Education, Xi'an Jiaotong University.
