Chinese authorities have said the country is in close contact with the Philippine side over a visit to China by President Duterte.
The Chinese Foreign ministry said China welcomes and looks forward to a visit by Duterte at an early date.
The ministry spoke highly of the importance the Philippine president has attached to the bilateral relations.
It also expects high-level exchanges between the two sides to promote their friendship and contribute to the regional stability and prosperity.
The remarks come after Philippine media reports said President Duterte is to start a longer-than-earlier-expected state visit to China soon.
