Police officer helps teenager with fragile bones to get an ID

Gong Xiaobing helps Hu Weifeng to go out of home.

Hu Weifeng, a 16-year-old from China’s Sichuan province, was diagnosed with brittle bone disease when he was only 9 years old. Since Hu's disease requires extensive care and attention, Hu’s parents moved the family from Sichuan to Chongqing in 2012 for better medical treatment. Unfortunately, even in Chongqing, the boy’s condition has so far not improved.

Unable to travel long distances, it also became an impossible task for Hu to get his state ID. Having taught himself several marketable skills while stuck at home, Hu's goal was to find some part-time work online to ease his family's burden. However, without an official ID, the job hunt yielded nothing. And to apply for an ID card for the first time, Hu was required to go back to his birthplace, Linba Township.

Moved by Hu’s considerate nature, Gong Xiaobing, a local police officer, volunteered to drive Hu’s family back to their hometown. Given Hu’s condition, the 400-kilometer roundtrip journey was no simple proposition; a single sharp turn could potentially break Hu's fragile bones.

”I was extremely careful while I was driving,” Gong noted. His supervisor also contacted his colleague in Linba Township to facilitate the registration process.

“I am very grateful to Mr. Gong, as he not only took great care of me but also helped me to realize my dream,” Hu said.
