More than 100 villas abandoned in Guangxi

More than 100 villas have been abandoned by real estate developers in Laibin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. These nearly-completed four-story buildings are now packed with garbage and surrounded by a polluted river. Residents of a neighboring village sighed over the state of the development. Many say the abandoned buildings feel gloomy. Some herd cattle in the area.

Originally purchased in 2011, the land was intended to be site of villas, which were sold two or three years later. However the buildings were not completed on schedule, and deliveries were frequently delayed. Later, it was proven that some of the buildings had been illegally sold to multiple customers, and that the real estate development company was in serious debt.

Following that announcement, nearly 100 of the villas' owners tried protesting in front of the sales center, but they received no response. Employees of the real estate company eventually fled, leaving the uncompleted houses behind them.
