China repatriates 141 fugitive officials since 2015

(Xinhua)    20:44, July 20, 2016

CHANGCHUN, July 20 (Xinhua) -- China has repatriated 141 fugitives suspected of official misconduct or dereliction of duty since October 2015, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) revealed on Wednesday.

These suspects include Li Huabo, a former local finance official accused of embezzling 94 million yuan (about 14 million U.S. dollars), and Dai Xuemin, former manager of a trust and investment company, who is suspected of embezzling 11 million yuan.

The "important achievement" is a great deterrent to other fugitives, the SPP said.

It asked authorities to come up with more means of uncovering corruption and official misconduct and to take more measures to prevent suspects escaping. It also vowed to strengthen international judicial cooperation in this area.
