By Yuan Can (People's Daily Online)    14:49, July 11, 2016

The eight vessels that were involved in dumping 4,000 tons of garbage from Shanghai into Suzhou were remanded to Shanghai on July 8, and the construction waste they carried will be disposed of in accordance with relevant regulations, according to a report by People's Daily.

A director from a Shanghai-based environmental authority, Zou Hua, told reporters from People's Daily that all construction waste will be transported to emergency construction waste disposal sites, where it will be disposed of in an appropriate manner.

In cooperation with police from Suzhou, the city of Shanghai is investigating the incident. "The involved vessels and relevant employees will be placed on a blacklist and banned from undertaking any more construction waste transportation work," said Zou. Zou also promised that the company responsible for orchestrating the illegal dump will bear all the costs associated with the incident.

Zou said that there are currently plans underway to investigate all sites involved in construction waste disposal in order to determine whether they are actually qualified to do the job.
